Why Fiction?
“When we express our truths in our own writing, either in response to literary works or to other prompts, we empower and develop our voice.”
- Geri Ciebel Chavis
ABOUT OUR APPROACH
we believe in creative expression
over outcome.
This process works best when you are approaching your project from an experimentation mindset — the goal of this approach is not necessarily to be read or published. Lucky for us all, the healing benefits of writing fiction happen whether another soul reads it or not. Whether we keep it in a drawer or sell it to hundreds of thousands. The point is: don't approach this as a craft-based approach. Don't approach this with expectations that your book will be ready for publication because that’s not the goal here.
Processes are ever-evolving, as are your circumstances — so adaptation and refining of this process is encouraged and expected. The only process that works for you is the one you will follow. If a few of the suggestions or methods give you inspiration — run with it! And if the rest of it sounds like bullshit — that's cool, too, because that means you know what you don't want, which is sometimes half the battle when you're finding your process. Just keep an open mind and we promise you’ll enjoy the ride.
I’M THE GIRL
Behind the scenes
Hey! I’m Jade. I built the Writing Fiction to Heal workshop & community from a desire to teach others how powerful writing stories can be for their own healing and self-growth. As a trauma survivor, author of more than 25 books, and a Certified Trauma Recovery Coach, I can attest to the benefits writing gives us.
I’ve worked with writers all over the globe who have found recovery and healing through the act of writing and other expressive arts modalities. Writing Fiction to Heal just happens to be one of my favorite and trusted ways to approach the page.
